GANNETT UPS SULLIVAN TO REVIVE D.C. NEWSCAST

Following a precipitous decline in its local news ratings, Gannett Broadcasting has replaced Hank Yaggi as vice president/general manager of its WUSA here. His successor is Bob Sullivan, VP, broadcast, at Gannett’s KPNX Phoenix.

Sullivan was the Phoenix station’s news director before getting VP stripes last year.

WUSA, a CBS affiliate and Gannett’s flagship property, was for years this city’s dominant news department but is currently struggling in every local newscast. One reason is its aging team of weeknight news and sports anchors, who are being trounced in ratings and crucial demos, principally the NBC-owned WRC.
