Comedian Rick Aviles, who appears in Universal’s upcoming “Waterworld,” died March 17 of heart failure in L.A. He was 41.

Born in Manhattan, Aviles started his career as an actor and stand-up comic by doing street shows in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village.

On television, he appeared as host of “Showtime at the Apollo,” HBO’s “One Night Stand,” and the miniseries “The Stand.”

His films include “Cannonball Run” (1984), “Mystery Train” (’89), “Ghost” (’90), “The Godfather: Part III” (’90), “Green Card” (’90), “The Saint of Fort Washington” (’93), “Carlito’s Way” (’93) and the upcoming “Joe’s Apartment” and “Waterworld.”

He is survived by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

Services were held April 5 at the Laugh Factory in L.A.
