EDWARD JAMES

Veteran comedy writer Edward James, creator of the characters on which the 1950s series “Father Knows Best” was based, died of heart failure March 6 in Escondido, Calif. He was 86.

With Seaman Jacobs, James co-wrote the pilots for “The Addams Family” and “F-Troop” as well as multiple episodes of “F-Troop,” “The Real McCoys,” “No Time for Sergeants,” “Tycoon,” “Family Affair,” “The Danny Thomas Show” and “Petticoat Junction.”

Other shows for which he had written include “My Favorite Martian,” “Bill Dana” and “My Three Sons.”

Survivors include his wife, a sister, three sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held in Escondido.
