A Warner Bros, plan to build a theater/cinema complex in Salt Lake, a suburb of Calcutta, has been scuttled. It had been welcomed a year ago by the state’s Communist-run government, but then hardliners in that party objected to what they termed “control from outsiders.”
When Warner Bros, brass first visited Calcutta, the Salt Lake stadium seemed an ideal location for an extensive cinema complex. The Hollywood studio planned to invest $35 million in renovation and construction, provided the land was free.
WB still plans to build multiplexes in Bombay and Bangalore.
