A documentary described as “Spinal Tap” meets “Truth or Dare” is being put together about Keanu Reeves’ band Dogstar.
Video director Joe Charbonic is directing his friends Reeves, Rob Mailhouse (who was killed off “Days of Our Lives” a couple years ago), Brett Domrose and Greg Miller in a film that will follow the band on tour this summer, starting June 27 in Osaka, Japan, and ending in a 20-city U.S. bus tour. The last stop is Aug. 18 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.
CAA on board
The project is being produced by Tami Masuda and Cathy O’Gorman through their company Sidereal. Creative Artists Agency helped to put the tour together, and financing and distribution is currently coming together.
“Keanu, Rob and the crew are the embodiment of Bill and Ted,” said one insider. “It follows this band through their partying, backstage craziness and the girls trying to get past security. In Japan, they have this guy who’s a security guard who is 5-foot 3-inches and is a registered lethal weapon, but they still get past.
“The director and the band also play in a hockey team together, finding games wherever they can. They never win. They always think they’re going to, but they never do. They’ve been complaining about it for the past two years. This is a film for the twentysomething generation.”
