Critically acclaimed Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami was awarded a special prize from the Pasolini Foundation in Rome on Dec. 13.
The award, designed to commemorate the 20-year anniversary of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s death last month, was presented by Bernardo Bertolucci.

The award jury, which included actress Laura Betti, who runs the foundation, and Pasolini’s biographer Enzo Siciliano, called Kiarostami “one of the few filmmakers still concerned with the evolution of the language of filmmaking and its relationship to truth and reality.”
Earlier this week, Kiarostami completed shooting in Iran on his new feature, tentatively titled “The Journey to Dawn.”
