Hollywood is coming back to the classics in a big way. Miramax has made a deal with “Bullets Over Broadway” co-scripter Doug McGrath to write and direct an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel “Emma,” which will star Gwyneth Paltrow as the girl who sets up everyone to get married – except herself.
“I have always loved the book, and am naturally attracted to anything where 80% of dialogue is already written,” said McGrath. “I think it’s the best Jane Austen wrote, most adult and sophisticated. I was always surprised no one made it into a movie, though I’m afraid I might find out why no one had made it into a movie.” McGrath has finished a draft of the screenplay.
