Among the highlights at this year’s Berlinale will be the follow-up project, or rather, projects from “Joy Luck Club” director Wayne Wang.
Wang’s newest effort, “Smoke,” is in Competition at Berlin. Screening Out of Competition is that pic’s companion piece, “Blue in the Face.” Both are Miramax releases.
“Smoke,” starring Harvey Keitel, William Hurt and Forest Whitaker, tells the story of the lives of various characters who pass through a Brooklyn cigar store. “Blue in the Face” is an ensemble offshoot of that pic, also taking place in the smoke shop and featuring Keitel, Roseanne, Michael J. Fox, Lily Tomlin and Madonna.
