Les Noms Terribles II

French titles get translated for Broadway – “Les Parents Terribles” became “Indiscretions” – and now English ones do, too. At an open rehearsal March 2 of Tommy Tune’s new musical, producers Barry and Fran Weissler announced that the show, formerly known as “Busker Alley” would henceforth bear the title “Stage Door Charlie.” Apparently nobody knows what a busker is, and presenters on the road – where “Charlie” will work out for six months before arriving at the St. James in October – kept calling it “buster.” The Weisslers, by the way, are paying a considerable premium to rehearse the show at the Nederlander Theater instead of, say, at 890 Broadway. Rehearsing on a real stage has its advantages, of course, but general manager Charlotte Wilcox said expenses are about 60% higher than they would be in a studio.
