Taos To Launch First Film Festival

The first Taos Talking Picture Festival is set to unspool April 6-9 in the northern New Mexico town.

Diverse fest will feature an extensive program of films by Native Americans, a Media Literacy Conference hosted by Hugh Downs and several tributes.

Fest’s Native American Filmmaker Tribute will go to Victor Masayesva Jr., who will show his “Imagining Indians.” The Latino American Filmmaker Tribute will spotlight Gregory Nava, who will screen “El Norte” and “My Family.”

Opening-night gala will consist of a double bill of two silent Westerns – the 1926 Tom Mix actioner “The Great K & A Train Robbery” and Douglas Fairbanks’ 1920 “The Mark of Zorro.”
