‘Reed’ Gets Euro Funding

Germany’s Senator Film and Spain’s Iberoamericana have signed up to co-produce “The Hollow Reed,” the next film from Nik Powell and Stephen Woolley of Scala Prods.

The low-budget film, which also will receive funding from Channel 4, will be directed by Angela Pope (“Captives”). Elizabeth Karlsen will produce, fresh from completing Terence Davies’ “The Neon Bible,” also for Scala.

Senator Intl. will handle foreign sales, and all three partners will be involved in lining up a U.S. distributor.

The film is based on the true story of a gay father’s battle to win custody of his 9-year-old son, who is being physically and mentally abused by his mother’s boyfriend. Ian Hart (“Back-beat”) is confirmed to star. The script is by Paula Milne.

Dan Cox, Anita M. Busch, Rex Weiner and Adam Dawtrey contributed to this report.
