Hanna-Barbera Cartoons Inc. is opening an international office in London at the end of the third quarter of this year. Heading international operations for the Turner Broadcasting-owned animator will be executive vice president JED SIMMONS. Simmons will oversee business development and positioning of Hanna-Barbera product working through Turner’s distribution entities. Before joining Hanna-Barbera, Simmons was vice president of business development for Turner Entertainment Networks, where he was involved in the purchase of Hanna-Barbera, the planning of the Cartoon Network and the launch of TNT Latin America.
DICKSANO has been named general manager of Buena Vista Intl. Japan, effective April 3. Mark Zoradi, president of Buena Vista Intl., made the announcement last week. Based in Tokyo, Sano will be responsible for sales and marketing of all pictures released under the Walt Disney, Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures banners in Japan, reporting directly to Zoradi at BVI headquarters in Burbank. Sano assumes this position from his most recent role as managing director of Polygram, where he was responsible for video distribution of Polygram product in Asia since April. Before joining Polygram, Sano served in several capacities at Vestron culminating in his promotion to vice president overseeing theatrical, television and video distribution for all of Asia in 1986.
