Gianni Amelio took best director honors for his Albanian-set drama “Lamerica” at the 50th annual Silver Ribbon (Nastri d’Argento) Awards, presented in Rome on March 18.
Vittorio Cecchi Gori was named best producer for the Amelio pic, as well as for other nominated features “The Postman,” “A Simple Formality” and “The Bull.”
Also honored for “Lamerica” was cinematographer Luca Bigazzi.
The awards are voted on by the Union of Italian Film Journalists.
Best first feature went to director Paolo Virzi for “Living It Up,” which garnered a best actress nod for Sabrina Ferilli.
Alessandro Haber won best actor for “The True Life of Antonio H.”
Supporting actor awards went to Virna Lisi for “La Reine Margot” and to Marco Messeri for “With Closed Eyes.”
