Ganis to chair Governors Ball

Sid Ganis has been appointed to chair the 68th Academy Awards Governors Ball committee. Ganis, president of worldwide marketing for Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Cos., is first vice president of the Academy and a member of the board of governors representing the public relations branch.

Ganis succeeds Alan Bergman in overseeing the event. Bergman, who will serve as vice chair for the 1996 ball, has stepped down from the board of governors under the Academy’s maximum nine consecutive years rule.

“Under the auspices of Alan Bergman the past four years, the Governors Ball has become the place to be seen following the Academy Awards,” said Ganis. “I believe his experience and my newness will be a great combination to further enhance the Governors Ball reputation.”

The 1996 Governors Ball will be held March 25, at the Los Angeles Music Center following the live ABC telecast.
