Bruce Springsteen led the charge at the 37th annual Grammy Awards March 1 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, picking up four trophies.
Newcomer Sheryl Crow took the award for record of the year, earning the nod along with producer Bill Bottrell for “All I Wanna Do” off the singer’s A& M debut disc “Tuesday Night Music Club.”
Pop veteran Tony Bennett, who has enjoyed a remark able career resurgence over the past two years, nailed the Grammy for album of the year along with producer David Kahane for his “MTV Unplugged.” Bennett, a triple nominee, picked up a pair of statuettes
Considered the Oscars of the music world, the Grammys are handed out annually by the 8,000 members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for excellence in all forms of music. The awards are for records released between Oct. 1,1993, and Sept . 30,1994. Telecasts of the ceremonies reach a potential audience of 1.4 billion viewers worldwide.
