Dvd And Conquer: Specs Set

After months of wrangling, Toshiba, Matsushita, Time Warner, Philips, Sony, Pioneer, JVC, Hitachi and Mitsubishi joined together in Tokyo on Dec. 8 to unveil the technical specifications of the new digital videodisc and player. The next-generation playback technology for text, sound and images, which may replace traditional video-cassette recorders and CD-ROM drives for PCs, is expected to begin rolling out in the fourth quarter of 1996.
