GOOD MORNING: Michael J. Fox is returning to TV thanks to — and because of — Woody Allen, Fox’s idol. He’ll star in ABC’s “Don’t Drink the Water” with Woody (who also wrote and directs), Mayim Bialik and Julie Kavner. Fox, now on the bigscreen with “Greedy,” next directs/stars in U’s “30 Wishes”– about reaching the age of 30. He was also paged to star in 20th’s “Bye Bye Love,” but bye-bye’d it … Seven years ago, when Victoria Principal parted with “Dallas,” she had two ambitions: to produce a show and to do a comedy. She fulfilled the first and this week takes on comedy — and her first sitcom guestint — in “Home Improvement” with Tim Allen. She agreed without knowing the story, did not see a script until Saturday. “I’m excited — and terrified,” she admitted. Principal will be seen in her heavy drama milieu again April 4 on ABC’s “Beyond Obsession” telepic … Arthur Hiller’s in N.Y. for Tuesday’s Acad nominees’ breakfast at the Russian Tea Room — the counterpart to last Tuesday’s nominees’ lunch here at the BevHilton. Hiller stopped en route in Nashville where their film commissioner, Darrah Meeley, rolled out all the local moviemakers at the DR&A studio for the Acad’s president to see Nashville’s moviemaking ability … The Oscar party at Elaine’s in N.Y. will be hosted by Blaine and Robert Trump and “N.Y. It Ain’t Over’s” committee … This’ll be the final Oscar party at Nicky Blair’s. The Sunset Strippery’s in escrow with a N.Y. restaurant chain, which will rename it. The eatery remains open under Nicky’s aegis until summer when he opens the first of his — and Aaron Spelling’s — Peach Pit boites. And a new Nicky Blair’s will open in Las Vegas. Nicky’s Oscar party will be for his regulars and longtime pals who have dined with him at his eateries.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Barbara and Marvin Davis set Oct. 28 for their 11th Carousel of Hope. The gala will be held at the BevHilton and headlined by Phil Collins, Neil Diamond and Placido Domingo, with Jay Leno as M.C., Merv Griffin as host. Hillary Rodham Clinton is honorary chairwoman, the Ronald Reagans and Gerald Fords honorary co-chairs. The event also boasts an auction extravaganza co-chaired by Nancy and Dana Davis. The night is expected to raise $ 5 million for diabetes charities … But first, April 29, Barbara Davis is honored as Mother of the Year at the Cedars-Sinai Helping Hand Mother’s Day luncheon at the BevWilshire, for her dedication to many philanthropic causes. The Davises donated $5 million to a C-S research building in ’89 … The last survivor — Miep Gies (85), who hid Anne Frank — and kept her diaries hidden until war’s end — will be honored by the Wiesenthal Center May 12 at the Century Plaza. Also to be honored as “A Child of Valor” is Yugoslavia’s Zlata Filopovic (13), who wrote/kept “A Diary of a Child’s Life in Sarajevo” (Viking). Jeffrey Katzenberg and Terry Semel co-chair this event, along with Whoopi Goldberg and Dawn Steel. Meanwhile, Edward Olmos was honored Sunday by the Miami Wiesenthal Center chapter at the Fontainebleau where “Schindler’s List” author Thomas Keneally was guest speaker. Olmos works for the Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance, diabetes research and children’s charities. On hand were Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean and founder of the center in L.A., and exec director Rabbi Meyer May … The World Cup USA gave the Concern Foundation (for cancer research) $ 200, 000 to help launch the 20th annual Block Party on Rodeo Drive, July 10 — when the World Cup games will be in full swing in nine U.S. cities — including L.A., of course … Meanwhile, over the weekend at Jackson Hole, Wyo., Connie Stevens hosted her fifth celeb ski extravaganza, which has raised millions for Community Entry Services — and she will build a resort for the handicapped up there. Connie told me she’s obtained the land and will start building 16 cabins.
