DGA blurb noms unveiled

Joe Pytka, helmer for many of the last decade’s popular TV ads, earned his 10 th nomination for the Directors Guild of America commercial award Wednesday along with four other nominees.

DGA prexy Gene Reynolds announced 60-second helmer nods for first-time nominees Mark Coppos, Danny Ducovny and Peter Goldschmidt, along with four-time nominee James Gartner.

The winner will be announced at the dual-coast DGA Awards banquet March 5 in Los Angeles and New York.

Pytka was nominated for three Nike ads, “Kenya,””Barkley of Seville” and “Playground.” He won DGA commercial awards in 1982, 1986 and 1991.

Gartner was named for two Federal Express ads, “Golden Package” and “Applause ,” and one AT&T spot, “Baseball & Piroshki.” He won the DGA accolade in 1988.

Coppos was nominated for ads for Infiniti, Reebok, United Parcel Service and MasterCard.

Ducovny’s recent ads have included Wachovia Bank, Harvard Community Health Plan, Pine St. Inn and Foundation Health.

Goldschmidt was named for his “Speed of Sound” spot for Air France.
