Peter Hackes, a retired Washington correspondent for NBC who also appeared in the films “Broadcast News” and “True Colors,” died of a heart attack Sunday in D.C. He was 69.
Hackes joined NBC in 1955 after a three-year stint with CBS and worked at the Peacock web until 1986. He covered Capitol Hill, the State Dept. and NASA, and worked every national political convention from 1956-86. Hackes played a staff-cutting network chieftain in “Broadcast News” and had a minor role in “True Colors.” Survived by his wife, a son, a stepdaughter and two grandchildren.
