John Hiram Powers, the first NBC employee to complete 50 years of service, died Aug. 17 in Hayesville, N.C.

Powers joined NBC in 1929 as a page. During his 50 years at NBC, he worked in casting, sound effects for radio and television, and as a broadcast engineering technician.

Survived by wife, son, three daughters, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
