Jay Kriegel is entering the world of public relations. The former CBS senior veep has become a counselor to Abernathy MacGregor Scanlon.
Kriegel will focus on expanding the firm’s communications and entertainment practice, with an eye to heightening its international presence and work in governmental affairs. Abernathy MacGregor Scanlon most recently served as adviser to QVC in its unsuccessful campaign for Paramount.
“I want to focus on taking old media, like the broadcast networks, and find ways to increase their value by finding new technology opportunities for them,” said Kriegel. “The way my arrangement is structured, I have the flexibility to work on a wide range of projects in a senior adviser role.”
While Kriegel declined details on specific projects, he did say he would be doing work for CBS “on a project-by-project basis.” Kriegel left CBS last December after a six-year run as a behind-the-scenes powerbroker. He was the network’s point man in Washington, leading the battle against the financial interest and syndication rules, and was a vocal advocate for cable reregulation.
