‘Four Weddings’ and a ‘Hudsucker’ boost exclu B.O.

Several newcomers added heft to the exclusives roster last weekend, particularly Gramercy’s “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and Warner Bros.’ “The Hudsucker Proxy.”

Miramax’s “Sirens” rang a solid tone, while most others on the list slipped from the previous weekend.

The following is a list of weekend grosses for films released in New York and Los Angeles.

Los Angeles

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” (Gramercy) debuted to $ 10,920 at the AMC Century 14, $ 22,581 at the Beverly Connection 6 and $ 20,918 at the Mann Criterion 6.

“The Hudsucker Proxy” (Warner Bros.) opened at the AMC Century 14 to $ 26,035 .

“Sirens” (Miramax) opened to $ 11,627 at the Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion and $ 13 ,571 at the Beverly Center.

“Savage Nights” (Gramercy) fell 47% to $ 2,579 in its second at the Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion and 34% to $ 9,558 in its second at the Laemmle Sunset 5.

“Belle Epoque” (Sony Pictures Classics) fell 19% to $ 12,119 in its second at the Laemmle Royal.

“The Scent of Green Papaya” (First Look) fell 24% to $ 4,091 in its sixth at the Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion, opened to $ 1,598 at the Los Feliz and slipped 52% to $ 2,192 in its sixth at the Laemmle Sunset 5.

“Midnight Cowboy” (MGM/UA) opened to $ 6,168 at the Mann National, continuing its limited rerelease after a run at the Mann Bruin.

“Fiorile” (Fine Line) was off 18% to $ 2,587 in its fourth at the AMC Fine Arts and opened to $ 1,123 at the Laemmle Sunset 5.

“Dr. Bethune” (Tara Releasing) opened to $ 2,698 at the Laemmle Monica.

“Mary From Beijing” (Rim Films) opened to $ 2,017 at the Laemmle Monica.

“Twogether” (Borde Film Releasing) pulled $ 1,441 in its first at the Laemmle Sunset 5.

“Silent Tongue” (Trimark) dropped 68% to $ 1,023 in its third at the Beverly Center.

“The Life & Times of Allen Ginsberg” (First Run) was up 37% to $ 741 in its fourth at the Landmark NuArt.

New York

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” opened to $ 45,083 at the Loews New York Twin and $ 38,984 at the Loews 19th Street East.

“Sirens” jumped 22% to $ 18,199 in its second at the 68th Street Playhouse and 18% to $ 22,821 in its second at the Angelika.

“The Hudsucker Proxy” debuted to $ 32,783 at the Loews Tower East.

“Belle Epoque” fell 14% to $ 17,711 in its third at the Lincoln Plaza and 19% to $ 10,660 in its third at the Eastside Playhouse.

“Savage Nights” shed 14% to $ 20,159 in its third at the Angelika.

“Germinal” (Sony Pictures Classics) opened to $ 14,884 at the Loews Paris.

“The Scent of Green Papaya” was down 20% to $ 7,284 in its seventh at the Lincoln Plaza and 29% to $ 4,699 in its fourth at the Quad.

“Midnight Cowboy” slipped 29% to $ 10,184 in its third at the Cineplex Odeon Baronet.

“Fiorile” was off 17% to $ 6,789 in its sixth at the Lincoln Plaza and 31% to $ 3,189 in its sixth at the Village East.

“The Cement Garden” (October) dropped 16% to $ 5,382 in its fifth at the Angelika.

“The 24th Tournee of Animation” (Samuel Goldwyn) slipped 12% to $ 2,648 in its second at the Quad.

“Where the Rivers Flow North” (Caledonia) slipped 23% to $ 1,374 in its second at the Angelika 57.
