Former MGM exec Don Barrett has joined Nest Prods. as a senior veepee of marketing, just in time to help the fledgling indie market its first theatrical release, “The Swan Princess.”
Barrett will report to Matt Mazer, exec veepee of Nest.
He will oversee day-to-day activities for “The Swan Princess,” which is being distribbed by New Line Cinema.
Barrett, senior veep of marketing at MGM for seven years, departed after the Frank Mancuso regime took control of the studio.
He said he was happy to land at Nest Prods., which is getting ready to announce a slate of projects, primarily in family entertainment, both animation and live action.
“The idea to be in the family entertainment business was very attractive to me,” Barrett said. “Since I’ve been on the other side of the fence, it means I have the sensibility to have empathy for the distribution company.”
Before his MGM gig, Barrett served in various marketing posts at Universal and Columbia Pictures. He worked on “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,””Thelma & Louise,””Back to the Future,””A Fish Called Wanda” and the animated “An American Tale.”
