Amblin, U seek scribes

Applications are being accepted for the fifth annual Writer’s Film Project, a yearlong program for fiction, theater and film writers sponsored by Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures.

The writers are chosen by national competition, which last year attracted more than 3,400 applications.

Writers are evaluated on the basis of prose and dramatic writing samples. Up to 10 writers are chosen to participate, and each receives a $ 20,000 stipend to cover living expenses.

During the year, each writer creates two original, feature-length screenplays. Writers also individually meet with development executives from Universal and Amblin Entertainment.

Entry deadline is April 20. For applications, send a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope to the Chesterfield Film Co./Writer’s Film Project, 100 Universal City Plaza, Building 447, Universal City, CA 91608. Information: (818) 777-0998.
