‘SNL’ may poke fun at host’s nuptials

GOOD MORNING: The unconventional wedding ceremony of “90210’s” Shannen Doherty and Ashley Hamilton may find its way onto this week’s “Saturday Night Live,” which she hosts. As of Wednesday’s talk through, Lorne Michaels admitted the couple’s doings will “probably” be a part of the show. But he added, “We would never do anything that would make her feel uncomfortable — the host has an OK.” But it is “Saturday Night LIVE. ” I also reached new groom Hamilton who told me he wasn’t “100% sure” whether the show would parody them. “I’m staying out of it,” said Hamilton. “I don’t know if they’ll incorporate the wedding or our past.” Asked whether their unique wedding is valid in the eyes of the state of California, Hamilton said, “If it’s invalid, I want to make it (right). We’ll worry about it when we get back.” They return to L.A. Monday when she continues “90210” and he says they’d eventually like to go to France for a honeymoon …”I’m beginning to feel itchy about directing again,” admits Jack Lemmon, who hasn’t been on the other side of the cameras since 1971 for “Kotch,” which won Walter Matthau an Oscar nomination. Lemmon’s completed a hefty season of acting in TNT’s “A Life in the Theater,” Fine Line’s “Short Cuts” and WB’s “Grumpy Old Men.” He attended a San Fernando Valley sneak of “Grumpy” and the N.Y. screening of “A Life” which airs Oct. 9. Now he attends the Oct. 5 L.A. preem of Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts” at the Acad to benefit the Sundance Institute and Actors’ Gang. He calls “Cuts” a major piece of work — and two-time Oscar winner Lemmon should know. Lemmon reveals “A Life in the Theater” “damn near” went theatrical” until a few days ago when sponsors screamed (they had it for TV). We never made the attempt to make it as a theatrical feature,” he adds. “It’s perfect for TV — but maybe it would work in a limited arthouse release,” he added … Gina (Raymond) and Chris Lemmon are also busy: she co-wrote/sold a series “Bad Habits” to Stephen Cannell and also will co-produce. And Chris stars in the primetime syndie’d “Thunder in Paradise.” And the younger Lemmons are also expecting their second child in the spring.

LADY SONDRA LEAN, David’s widow, winged to L.A. for Wednesday’s preem of Col’s newly restored (by Jim Painten) version of Lean’s Oscar-winning “Bridge on the River Kwai.” The showing at the DGA was hosted by UCLA’s Chancellor Associates. Among those there was Maurice Jarre, Oscar-winning composer of “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Dr. Zhivago.” Lady Lean told me “it would be nice if it (‘Kwai’) went out in general release like ‘Lawrence’.” But she’s pleased the restored version is part of Columbia TriStar Home Video’s Heritage Collection. She’s trying to get Lean’s black-and-white classix (like “Great Expectations”) brought up to date “so it doesn’t disappear”… ABC’s Ted Harbert is pleased his network will present this year’s Ford Theater special taping Oct. 30 for late November sweeps. Jay Leno and Whoopi Goldberg will host the ABC show and Michael Bolton, Rosie O’Donnell, Boyz II Men, Kenny Loggins and Natalie Cole are among those skedded to star. The Clintons will attend and also host a White House reception … Nancy Reagan’s fifth pro-celeb charity tennis tourney will be held Oct. 9 at Riviera Tennis Club. The Nancy Reagan Foundation will present grants to Jim and Sarah Brady’s Center to Prevent Handgun Violence and to “Just Say No” Intl. … Melissa Cates, MTV senior counsel (and daughter of Gil Cates), marries Roger Claman of Rosco Labs. May 15 in Rye, N.Y.

BO DEREK, WATCHING the fires from her ranch in the San Raphael Mountains Wednesday afternoon, reported “it looks like an atomic mushroom.” She said they were safe “as long as the wind doesn’t shift”… A memorial for Raymond Burr will be held at 11 ayem Friday at the Pasadena Playhouse which Burr supported for many years … Pierce Brosnan follows “Mrs. Doubtfire” with Robin Williams and Sally Field with “Love Affair,” co-starring Warren Beatty and Annette Bening. And at year’s end, Brosnan begins “Lawnmower Man II”… If you want to forget about Bosnia, Somalia, Russia, the Reginald Denny and Menendez court cases for a couple of hours, head to the Wilshire Theater for “Catskills on B’way ” with Freddie Roman, Mal Z. Lawrence, Dick Capri and Louise DuArt . The talented quartet luckily has taped a vidcassette and I can’t wait to hear their routines again. Opening night found the Friars’ theater and supper party on hand and the laughs continued at the BevHills clubhouse … Nelson Mandela made an extra stop in N.Y. — at Planet Hollywood where Keith Barish hosted a party for Danny Glover and the “Bopha” cast … Wendy Crewson joins Whoopi Goldberg and Ray Liotta in “Corina, Corina” for New Line.
