Reagans view Heston photo show

GOOD MORNING: While former Presidents Ford, Carter and Bush busied with President Clinton in D.C., I caught up with Ronald Reagan and wife Nancy Tuesday night at the Galerie at Tatou in BevHills before Reagan spoke at the California State Republican Party fundraising dinner at the Century Plaza. The Reagans were at Peter Paul’s gallery for the debut of Lydia (Mrs. Charlton) Heston’s photographic exhibit, “Around the World in 40 Years.” I asked the Reagans why they weren’t at the D.C. doings and Nancy noted they could not get out of the GOP speech commitment — and, of course, the Hestons are friends and Chuck a longtime staunch, vocal Reagan supporter in all campaigns … Lydia’s pix are not of celebrities, but of people and places in the many locations they’ve traveled. Lydia started lensing on the Sarasota location of “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Her pix are like paintings and all 47 were sold in the first hour of the showing. Lydia’s favorite is of two gypsy children on the beach during the filming of “El Cid” in 1961 … Tony Curtis, who earlier showed his paintings at the gallery, was on hand and reported he’s heading to N.Y. for an exhibit same time his autobio bows, and his movie “Naked in N.Y.” opens … Among Heston’s guests, Milton Berle, who is tributed at the Emmys — he wings in from the Wilmington location of his “Matlock” guestint Sunday, returns to the series on the red eye … Chuck Heston’s just back from Toronto and New Line’s “In the Mouth of Madness,” which followed his “Tombstone” location role, then a cameo as a gas station attendant in “Wayne’s World II” and Wednesday played a CIAgent in the Arnold Schwarzenegger-Tom Arnold “True Lies.”

BEVERLY HILLS WAS BUSTLING with foot traffic between the doings above Beverly Drive and the Rodeo Drive action at Fred Hayman’s launching of his latest fragrance, Touch. As a matter of fact, Heston took time from his wife’s show, walked over to Fred’s place for a few minutes. And Hayman ditto’d over to Tatou. The BevHills High band and cheerleaders marched in and out of Fred’s place to the delight of the guests — and amazed Rodeo Drive tourists … Among the guests was Hayman customer Merv Griffin, who told me he’d just acquired the Deerfield hotel in Boca Raton. He’ll be out of Paradise Island in March. Griffin also reported his BevHilton will soon headquarter the Press Club. “Drop in and have a swim,” he invited … Among other Hayman customers there, Pat Sajak and Jay Leno. And Casey Kasem, just back from the D.C. peace meetings, where he and Theo Bikel celebrated the success of their mutual Arab-Israeli efforts … Added doings around the corner at Brighton Way, where Phillipe Adec bowed his first boutique in the U.S. The designer didn’t make it to the opening — his plane was turned back out of Paris. But owner Serge Cohen greeted well-wishers … Stars and exex, including Tim Allen, Mayim Bialik, Angela Lansbury, George Lucas, Gary Smith, Dwight Hemion, etc., taped congrats, greetings to Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards nominees’ ceremony, which is produced/directed by Spike Jones Jr. Jones does ditto duties for the Michael Douglas tribute at the American Cinematheque on the 29th … One more completed “Perry Mason” is yet to air but on Oct. 6 the next show starts and is being retooled as “Perry Mason Mystery Theater,” with Paul Sorvino playing Mason’s friend … Brian Grazer, bicycling among “The Paper,””Greedy” and “Cowboy Way” locations, checked into UCLA Medical Center for reconstructive knee surgery … Walt Disney exec VP Joe Shapiro and real estate exec Rafaella Minetti will wed Friday at Loews Santa Monica. Frank Wells is best man …”Arsenio Hall Show” writer/producr Pete Hammond and Turner Pictures’ Madelyn Fenton were married Aug. 27 in Hawaii … Caroline Thomas, daughter of Pat and Bob Thomas, married James McGowan Sept. 11 in Malibu … TriStar VP Eric Tannenbaum, son of Barbara and Tom T., married producer Lillah McCarthy, daughter of Augusta Dabney and Kevin McCarthy, in Squaw Valley Sept. 11 … Liz Danzig, agent at Paul Kohner, and Michael Nyman, partner at Bragman, Nyman & Cafarelli, are engaged to marry next June … The Leon Askins, married 41 years, are divorcing.

ALAN LADD JR. lunched for the first time at Par’s commissary this week with longtime family friend A.C. Lyles. Laddie is temporarily officed at Raleigh until his H.Q. on the expanding Par lot are built. He remembers, as a young lad, visiting the lot on Saturdays when his dad worked the usual six days a week … Kelsey Grammer m.c.’s Sunday’s AIDS Walkathon starting at Par … Nicky Blair birthday’d “Beverly Hills, 90210’s” Joe E. Tata with co-stars Luke Perry, Jason Priestley and Ian Ziering … The Lennon Sisters reunion for the first time since ’89, singing at the “USO Extravaganza” for the Valley Shelter at the California National Guard Armory in Van Nuys.
