Viacom, Spelling team on ‘Pronto’

Viacom Pictures and Spelling Entertainment have purchased rights to Elmore Leonard’s novel “Pronto,” to be published by Delacorte in October.

Dick Berg and Alan Marcil — who produced Columbia’s “Fresh Horses” and NBC’s “For the Love of My Child: The Anissa Ayala Story”– will produce in association with Viacom Prods. Viacom Pictures will retain domestic distribution rights, while Spelling Films Intl. will handle foreign rights. The screenwriter is yet to be announced.

Set in Miami Beach and Italy, “Pronto” chronicles a bookie on the run from a U.S. marshal and the former topless dancer who comes between them.
