Brandon Tartikoff handicaps the fall TV season, notably the escalating latenight talkshow battle, on “Variety: TV’s Year of Living Cautiously.” The special’s syndication window is Sept. 1-19.
Tartikoff sees Jay Leno’s NBC show getting out of the gate fast, but he prefers David Letterman’s CBS show over the distance. “I believe his lineup will improve as the year goes by, and I think it will be David at the wire,” the former NBC entertainment group president said.
“Variety,” syndicated by Turner Broadcasting System’s syndie arm, Turner Program Services, is cleared in more than 90% of the country, including all of the top 30 markets.
Among other TV newsmakers on the special, Steven Bochco will discuss his controversial new show “NYPD Blue.”
“Variety” examines the fall’s television trends, highlights and lowlights. Host Robb Weller and entertainment journalists Lynn Blades, Andy Culpepper and Sam Rubin contribute, as do reporters and editors of Variety.
Sherry A. Weinman exec produces and Rob Wilson produces the special. John Brodie and J. Max Robins are supervising producers for Variety.
