PBS to air ‘Bombs’ docu

After seven months of protests, PBS has decided to air Mark Mori and Susan Robinson’s Oscar-nominated docu “Building Bombs, the Legacy,” which uncovers massive environmental problems related to 40 years of nuclear bomb building.

The docu will be aired on Aug. 10 as part of PBS’ “P.O.V.” series.

Susan Clark (“Webster”) narrates.

“The version to be shown on PBS will be nine minutes shorter than the original,” Mori said Wednesday. “But in my opinion, the anti-nuclear message has been strengthened.”

PBS had been the target of an ongoing campaign of protest over its decision not to air “Bombs” and another documentary, “Deadly Deception: General Electric, Nuclear Weapons and Our Environment.”

“Building Bombs,” nominated for an Oscar in 1990, tells the story of William Lawless, former chief of radioactive waste management at the Dept. of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina.
