S. Epatha Merkerson and Jill Hennessy have joined the NBC drama “Law & Order, ” replacing characters played by Dann Florek and Richard Brooks, respectively, in the Wolf Films-Universal TV cops and lawyers series.
Merkerson will play a lieutenant who replaces Florek’s Capt. Kragen, while Hennessy will portray an assistant district attorney, with Brooks’ Paul Robinette moving to an uptown law firm.
Merkerson was recently a regular on the Wolf-Universal hour “Mann & Machine” and before that she appeared regularly on “Here and Now” and “Pee-wee’s Playhouse.” Hennessy will be seen in the feature “RoboCop III” and has been on the series “Flying Blind” and “The Hitchhiker.”
“Law & Order” returns for its fourth season in the fall. The show has undergone several cast changes during its run, and in a statement Wolf said the new additions will “positively highlight the important roles that contemporary women are playing in both law enforcement and the criminal-justice system.”
