BET disarming vids

WASHINGTON — Black Entertainment Television is considering jumping on the anti-TV violence bandwagon by banning all depictions of gun usage in musicvideos during September.

BET spokesman Craig Muckle said Aug. 25 the cable web originally hoped to institute the gun ban during the month of July. That has now been pushed back to September, he said.

“This would be our way of addressing the issue of violence on TV,” Muckle said. “Guns are prevalent in the African-American community. In a manner of speaking, this is our way of doing a small part, even it it’s only for a short time.”
