ABC, CBS keep winning in fringe

The winning streaks continued in fringe ratings, according to Nielsen statistics for the week ending March 7, as ABC’s “Good Morning America” posted its 17th consecutive victory among morning fare and CBS’ daytime schedule powered to its 209th consecutive triumph.

“Good Morning America” beat NBC’s “Today” for the morning crown with a 5.2 rating/21 share, marking the ABC show’s third consecutive finish with a household rating of at least 5.0. “Today” earned a 4.5/18 and “CBS This Morning” generated a 3.3/13.

Still, “CBS This Morning” was up 27% over the same week a year ago and 19% over its season-to-date average then. For the season, “GMA” is averaging a 4.5/ 19 to “Today’s” 4.3/19. “CBS This Morning” is averaging a 3.1/14.

CBS’ daytime lineup earned a 5.5/20 for the week, with ABC’s offerings generating a 5.2/18. NBC earned a 3.0/18. On the season, CBS is averaging 5.7/21 , ABC 4.9/17 and NBC 3.0/11.

However, ABC again won the daytime race in the key women ages 18-49 demographic. ABC averaged 4.5 for the week, with CBS mustering 3.2 and NBC 1.9.

CBS had six of the top 10 regularly scheduled programs during the week, while ABC had three. “Days of Our Lives” was NBC’s sole entry in the top 10.

Saturday mornings went to CBS, which generated a 6.7 among kids 2-11. The Fox Children’s Network finished second in that demographic (6.5) and ABC had a 6.0. On the season, CBS is averaging 6.0 with the tykes to Fox’s 5.4 and ABC’s 5.1.

Fox boasted the highest-rated program among kids, “Tiny Toon Adventures,” which delivered an 8.4 rating among children. In household ratings, CBS holds a tenth of a point lead over ABC (3.5/12 vs. 3.4/12), while Fox averaged 3.2/11 for the week. Seasonally, CBS has 3.4/12; ABC and Fox are tied with 3.0/11.

ABC’s “Nightline” averaged 6.2/17 to lead the late-night race; NBC’s “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” saw 5.0/14 for that half-hour and 4.4/14 overall. CBS’ “Crime Time After Prime Time” had 3.2/11. Season to date, “Nightline” is averaging 5.1/15, “Tonight” 4.6/14 and “Crime Time” 3.0/10.
