June Valli, a singer who appeared on network variety shows from the 1950s through the 1970s and was the voice in the Chiquita Banana commercial, is dead at age 64.

Valli died at home Friday of cancer, according to her husband, Jimmy Merchant.

She was a co-star of “Lucky Strike Hit Parade” for three years in the 1950s and released the topselling song, “Crying in the Chapel,” in 1954.

She performed in concerts around the world, worked with Johnny Carson and Bob Hope, and was on a summer replacement show with Andy Williams in 1957.

Valli also did voiceovers for commercials.

A funeral is scheduled for tomorrow.
