The management reorganization program under way at Studio Canal Plus for the past few months appears to be near its conclusion.

Parent company Canal Plus this week is expected to announce the arrival of Pierre Heros.

His official title is not known, but Heros most likely will be in charge of French and European film production.

Heros comes to the studio with a solid reputation as head of pubcaster France 3’s film production unit, head of production at the defunct La Cinq and, more recently, general manager of Generale d’Images — the film and TV arm of waterworks giant Generale des Eaux.

New role for Bonnell

The appointment means that the move from an all-powerful studio topper, Rene Bonnell, to a more commitee-based management structure is virtually complete. Bonnell was recently given the title studio VP, clearing the way for Canal Plus No. 2 Pierre Lescure to add the general manager’s title to his existing presidency of Studio Canal Plus. Heros will report to Lescure.

Although Canal Plus insiders stressed that exact titles and roles are to be defined, Bonnell will continue to acquire film product for the highly profitable pay-TV network and oversee Studio Canal Plus’ distribution strategy. Greenlighting French and European film production was previously part of his job.

The new-look Studio Canal Plus management has Pierre Lescure at its head, with Bonnell as VP and Olivier Granier as deputy general manager.

Granier moved from financial director during Cannes.

His will include overseeing Studio Canal Plus’ connections with the U.S. (another job previously handled by Bonnell). That involves the Gallic company’s investment in Carolco and the acquisition of titles from the current deal with producer Arnon Milchan.
