Gary Borton has been appointed exec VP of laboratory operations at Deluxe Labs. Borton, a 27-year vet of Eastman Kodak Co., was most recently general manager and veepee of western U.S. and Canada, for the Motion Picture & Television Imaging group.

The 20th anniversary Student Academy Awards will be held Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences. Acad president Robert Rehme, award executive committee chair June Foray and presenters John Landis, Steve Guttenberg and Karl Malden will be on hand. Trophies and prize money will be presented prior to screenings of the winning films.

GNP Crescendo Records will issue a CD compilation of soundtrack recordings from the TV series “The Outer Limits.” The album, composed and conducted by the late Dominic Frontiere, will feature 38 compositions and 15 tracks from the series’ sound-effects library. Also, Turner Network Television will present a nine-hour “Outer Limits” marathon Saturday at 5 p.m.

NBC will replace “L.A. Law” with repeats of the Lorimar TV series “Sisters” during the summer at 10 p.m. Thursdays, beginning next week. The drama had been resting while NBC aired the comedies “Black Tie Affair” and “The Powers That Be” in its 10 p.m. slot.

Lensing has begun on Touchstone’s “Sister Act 2,” skedded for a December release, featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Najimy and Maggie Smith. Film’s produced by Scott Rudin and Dawn Steel, directed by Bill Dukefrom a screenplay by James Orr and Jim Cruickshank.
