Raindance market bows with ‘Killing Zoe’ preem

The world premiere of Roger Avary’s “Killing Zoe” will help kick off the inaugural Raindance Film Market, scheduled for Oct. 16-22 at London’s Planet Hollywood.

Raindance is England’s first market for indie films.

It was modeled on such indie-oriented markets as the Sundance Film Festival in Utah and the Independent Feature Film Market in New York. It is being backed by the U.K.’s Producers Alliance for Cinema & Television.

“Killing Zoe,” Avary’s directing debut, was exec produced by Quentin Tarantino. It stars Eric Stoltz, Julie Delpy and Jean-Hugues Anglade.

Other films accepted in the market include: Steven Starr’s “Joey Breaker,” Peter Friedman’s docu “Silverlake Life: The View From Here,” Luis Puenzo’s “The Plague,” Chaim Bianco and Steven Taylor’s “Pope of Utah” and Tiana Thi Thanh’s portrait of post-war Vietnam, “From Hollywood to Hanoi.”

In addition to the main market, there will be the “Directors Reel,” in which British filmmakers seeking financing will screen unfinished works.

Raindance is designed to fall between the Mipcom TV market in Cannes and the Mifed film market in Milan.

The deadline for submissions for feature films, docus, shorts and Directors Reel entries is Sept. 15. The U.S. program is being organized by In Pictures, based at the Tribeca Film Center in New York. Entry fees are $ 75 for the festival and $ 250 for the market.
