Tommy Lee Jones is set to star opposite Jeff Bridges in MGM’s “Blown Away,” scheduled to begin principal photography Aug. 18. Additionally, negotiations are under way with Cuba Gooding Jr. for a principal role in the contemporary thriller.
The pic casts Bridges as a member of the Boston police bomb squad who’s about to marry and retire from the force.
His plans are put on hold when he’s called back to deal with a series of bombs set by a man from his past in Ireland.
Jones will play Bridges’ adversary and Gooding’s role would be that of the newest member of the police demolition team. Producer John Watson would only confirm discussions with Gooding but other sources insisted his casting is now merely a matter of paperwork.
Pic will be produced and developed by Trilogy Entertainment. Interior work will be done in L.A., with locations probably around Boston.
Stephen Hopkins, who recently completed “Judgment Night” for Largo, is set to direct the script by Joe Batteer and John Rice. Another Batteer/Rice script, “Chasers,” is in production for Morgan Creek with Tom Berenger starring and Dennis Hopper directing.
