HFPA inducts new officers

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. presented more than $ 80,000 in contributions to charities and film schools and introduced its officers at its 51st annual installation luncheon Wednesday.

Some 200 publicists and entertainment journalists convened at Spago to welcome the new board and beneficiaries.

Mirjana Van Blaricom returned for her second year as HFPA’s president. Other officers are veepee Mahfouz Doss, secretary Lowell Staine and treasurer Jack Tewksbury.

The largest donation, $ 25,000, went to the American Film Institute. Other recipients included the USC School of Cinema-Television, UCLA College of Fine Arts, the Margaret Herrick Library and Actors & Others for Animals.

Blaricom said she plans to focus this year on fostering better relationships with film studios, encouraging more camaraderie among press members and helping foreign press gain the same access to stories as domestic press.
