Germany sets film office

Since the privatization of Babelsberg, Germany’s most well-known film studio , 14 months ago, film and TV production in the region has been sluggish.

But local politicians now say they want to help attract filmmakers.

The state of Brandenburg announced Tuesday that an office would be established by mid-August to aid and encourage film and media companies to resettle in the state. The measure was announced following a closed meeting between politicians and local media companies.

According to a government spokesman, pubcasters ORB and ZDF were present, along with reps from Bertelsmann and Filmhaus Munchen, Germany’s largest ad spot producer, which bought the old DEFA studios.
