French push Euro studio

Veteran French producer Daniel Toscan du Plantier is lobbying to persuade the French and German partners in cultural network Arte to form a European film production studio.

The idea, which was floated July at an Arte board meeting, is due to be discussed again in September when Arte exex meet in Mainz.

Toscan du Plantier, who sits on the Arte board, told Daily Variety, “The French side of Arte already has a film production arm, 7 Cinema, and we would like to see an equivalent created by the German side of the network.”

While acknowledging that the joint studio project is in discussion, Arte exex in Germany noted that if ever it gets off the ground, it is unlikely that they would be able to bring anything like 40 million francs to the table.
