Producer Steven J. Wolfe said Tuesday that Fairuza Balk will star in writer/director Salome Breziner’s “Tollbooth,” skedded to start production in the Florida Keys Aug. 3.
Balk, the 1993 Spirit Award winner as best actress for “Gas, Food, Lodging,” will star opposite Lenny Von Dohlen in the quirky, $ 1.5 million comedy about a tollbooth operator who wants to leave town with his sweetheart, Doris.
Balk is represented by the Paul Kohner Inc. talent agency.
Cassel lined up
Seymour Cassel has replaced Lawrence Tierney in the picture after Tierney dropped out because of scheduling conflicts. Louise Fletcher also appears in the pic.
“‘Tollbooth’ is a character study, and I think this is one of the finest groups of actors I have seen assembled recently for an independent movie,” Wolfe said.
“The cast will make the difference for this movie, and a lot of people are going to be talking about it next year,” Wolfe said.
