Patrick Bergin and Helen Mirren are set to star in “Raging Earth,” the first feature from New York-based Eagle Films.

Eagle Films topper Rene L. Ash will exec produce and his partner/wife Ethel Ash will produce with Rolando Guistini. “Henry V” producer Bruce Sharman will co-produce.

Indie financing of the $ 13.5 million eco-actioner is almost completed. No distrib is attached.

“Joshua Tree” helmer Vic Armstrong will shoot the exteriors in a Malaysian rain forest, a key “character” in the adventure.

Sci-fi twist has the planet striking back with a vengeance against man’s destruction of the rain forests.

Bergin (“Sleeping With the Enemy”) will play Harry, a Wall Street broker who quits his job and retreats into the jungle to start over. He slowly becomes an activist and meets Evelyn (Mirren), a doctor searching for a medicinal plant believed to cure cancer.

As reported, “Mississippi Masala” star Sarita Choudhury plays Bergin’s sidekick and “Lethal Weapon 2” villain Joss Ackland is an enemy who runs a corporation that’s clear-cutting the rain forest.

The cancer-cure theme is where comparisons begin and end with “Medicine Man,” according to the spokesman. He said “Raging Earth” will be chock-full of special effects and be more of an action-adventure/thriller than a save-the-forest love story.
