Hamptons Film Fest set

The Hamptons Film Festival, Oct. 20-24, will host the world premiere of “The Nutcracker” with Macaulay Culkin and package nearly a dozen European premieres, according to fest’s international director Ruda Dauphin.

Dauphin, U.S. coordinator of the Deauville Festival du Cinema Americain, hopes to draw on Deauville’s past honorees for star power on Long Island.

“In 18 years of Deauville, we’ve had three to four homages each year,” Dauphin said. Those tributes have been to “all of Hollywood, really, actors, directors, producers. So I’m asking them to come to help launch the Hamptons Festival.”

Non-competition, paid-admission fest, Dauphin says, will roll in the East Hampton multiplex, with European films including “Ma Saison preferee” and “La Crise” as well as 25 U.S. pix.

Fest’s honorary chairs are Stuart Keister and Gerald Levin, Steven Spielberg is special adviser and trustees include Alan Alda, Alec Baldwin, Griffin Dunne, Ben Gazzara and George Plimpton.

Activities planned include an arts and artists series with biopix on Paul Bowles and Larry Rivers already selected.

Currently negotiating with Catherine Deneuve for an appearance, Dauphin says, festival’s pairing with Deauville will be an ongoing arrangement.
