‘Park’ ices $ 206 million o’seas

From Iceland to New Zealand, “Jurassic Park” is a monster success.

The Universal/UIP blockbuster ascended to $ 206 million gross overseas through Monday, helped along by those two far-flung territories.

In the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, 31,964 people — 32% of the city’s population and 12% of the country’s populace — have flocked to the film since the Aug. 13 opening. The 10-day gross at three theaters is $ 221,951, for a per-screen average of $ 73,984.

On the other side of the world in New Zealand, the pic bowed Aug. 20 on 30 screens and smashed 30 house records. Total to date there is $ 411,945.

Among the other milestones, “Jurassic Park” unseated “The Commitments” to become Ireland’s No. 1 pic of all time after just 29 days.

It’s also the top-grossing film, Chinese or English-speaking, in Singapore after 17 days, drawing more than 500,000 people.

In the big markets, the tallies stand at $ 76 million in Japan and $ 54.9 million in Britain through the sixth weekend.
