On Command Video Corp., a unit of Comasat Video Enterprises, said it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Spectradyne Corp., alleging that it is using patented On Command technology to compete in the hotel in-room entertainment business.
The suit also seeks a permanent injunction against Spectradyne, a unit of SPI Holding Inc.
The suit is directed at Spectradyne’s new on-demand video system known as “Guest Choice B.” The suit claims Spectradyne has infringed on its patent “by manufacturing, using, offering for sale and/or selling or causing to be sold” equipment that uses On Command technology.
Spectradyne had filed a patent infringement suit against On Command and Comsat asking that Comsat discontinue all in-room hotel entertainment service that Spectradyne claimed uses its SpectraVision technology.
SpectraVision received its patent in 1977 and claims On Command and Comsat developed a system in 1986 that is based upon and uses essential elements of its system.
