MTV Euro sues over vidclip fees

MTV Europe is suing five major record labels and two trade organizations in a dispute over broadcast license fees.

MTVE claims the practice of negotiating the price of musicvideos collectively is anti-competitive and a violation of European Community competition law.

The High Court writs were issued Aug. 2 against BMG, EMI, Polygram, Sony and Warner, plus Video Performance Limited (VPL), which licenses videos in the U.K., and the Intl. Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which does the same task in Europe.
