Eastman Kodak Co. announced the Oct. 18 opening of Cinesite Europe Ltd. in London. The Soho facility will provide the same digital scanning and recording services Kodak has offered in Burbank since opening its shop there last September.
“Our goal is to provide ready access to the most advanced digital film technology to filmmakers working here and in neighboring companies,” said Cinesite president Ed Jones in a statement from London. A data link will be eventually established between the facilities to transfer electronic files.
At the core of the sites is Cineon, a three-part system for scanning film into the digital language of computers. The images are then worked on electronically on high-powered Silicon Graphics computers with Kodak’s proprietary software before being outputted back to film using Kodak’s own xrecording device.
