Daniel Stariobin

Daniel Starobin, 43, a guitarist and songwriter who was a member of the blues-rock group Sweet Stavin’ Chain, died in Philadelphia Jan. 13 after heart surgery.

The band had a national hit in the early 1970s with a remake of “Teddy Bears’ Picnic.” They opened for The Who and other groups, but broke up in 1982, and Starobin shuttered his Star Recording studio. He continued to play dates, however, and was active in the Philadelphia Folk Song Society.

Survived by his father, stepmother, three brothers and a sister.
