The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball

The second filmed record of the bi-annual Amnesty International fundraiser in London. The Secret Policeman's Other Ball is a thoroughly entertaining concert pic. As irreverent and clever as its title, show boasts comic talents from Monty Python, Beyond the Fringe and Not the Nine O'Clock News and therefore does require a taste for British humor.

Some of the humor slides over into tastelessness, but most of it is rousing fun in the tradition of the groups from which these performers have sprung. Particularly hilarious are a Top of the Form quiz show take-off in which the moderator gets the correct answers mixed up, and a deadpan, coming-out-of-the-closet sexual confession by Alan Bennett.

[The film released in the US under the title The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball is a combination of footage from this pic and the previouse one.]
