Besides its obviously catchy title, Slumber Party Massacre is an entertaining terror thriller, with the switch that distaff filmmakers handle the ‘young women in jeopardy’ format.

Set in Venice, Cal, pic concerns high school girls having a sleep-over party, with ‘let’s scare ’em’ antics by the boyfriends. Meanwhile, a mad killer is in the vicinity, wasting kids of both sexes in bloody fashion with a portable drill and various wicked knives.

Out of traditional horror material consisting of red herrings, sudden shock movements into frame, etc, helmer Amy Jones develops some very stylish sequences. Notable is a complex mid-film montage mixing (with matched compositions) a horror film on TV, actual killings by the nut, and the sister chatting humorously on the phone.
